The dark timber of the Mpingo tree (aka African Blackwood) is the single most important ingredient in a clarinet or bagpipe chanter. Mpingo trees are indigenous to Tanzania, where deforestation is playing havoc with soil fertility. So, by planting lots of Mpingos, you´ll be helping to rebuild the forests, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, generate income and keep scores of musicians puffing.
